The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) officially launched its 51st edition on Tuesday with the announcement of the first four entries for this year’s competition. The MMFF 2025 event was held in Makati City and streamed live on MMFF’s official Facebook page.

Hosted by Enchong Dee and Jervi “Kaladkaren” Wrightson, the grand launch introduced a diverse lineup of films, chosen from submitted screenplays, that showcase the range of Filipino talent.
The first four official entries are:
Call Me Mother
A comedy-drama directed by Jun Robles Lana and starring Vice Ganda and Nadine Lustre. Produced by ABS-CBN Film Productions Inc., The IdeaFirst Company, and Viva Communications Inc.
Rekonek
A family drama by director Jade Castro, featuring Carmina Villarroel, Gloria Diaz, Alexa Miro, Gerald Anderson, and Zoren Legaspi. Produced by Reality MM Studios.
Manila’s Finest
A crime thriller starring Piolo Pascual and directed by Rae Red. Produced by Cignal TV Inc.
Shake, Rattle, and Roll: Evil Origins
A horror entry from Regal Entertainment Inc., directed by Shugo Praico, Joey de Guzman, and Ian Loreños. The cast includes Ivana Alawi, Francine Diaz, Kaila Estrada, Loisa Andalio, Manilyn Reynes, Richard Gutierrez, Janice de Belen, and more.
The MMFF 2025 theme is “A New Era for Philippine Cinema,” signaling the festival’s commitment to championing both artistry and audience connection.
The second batch of entries will be announced on September 30.
Key festival dates include the Parade of the Stars on December 19, the start of screenings on December 25, and the Gabi ng Parangal awards night on December 27.
Organized by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, MMFF remains a major event in Philippine entertainment, highlighting local films during the holiday season.
